We’re getting there a different way

As the web developer I hate to delete content. Somebody worked hard on it. Usually many people worked hard on. We have the photographers, the photograph editors, the writers and the publication editors. So, to just delete old content, I can’t bring myself to do it. So, I’m posting it here. It does serve the purpose of documenting where we’ve been. The post after this one tells a similar story, but from a better writer. Essentially we thought we were going back to Nicaragua, but God said something along the lines of “best laid plans of mice and men.”

We did complete the mission in Honduras, and the need is great. We’ve already begun working with the Honduras Miskito people to get them clean water wells, and in some cases seeds for a new crop, for hungry people. Read more about the current events on our recent mission page and our upcoming mission page.

Upcoming Mission Page from March 12, 2021

After two canceled trips, we are finally purchasing tickets for a third attempt to get into Nicaragua so that we can see our friends in Kissalaya and Kururia. You can read that update on our recent mission page. Before we go to visit those up and coming people, we’re going to meet some new people, who might benefit from our services, in Honduras. We’ve talked and prayed about this, and now it’s coming to fruition. God is good, and he is definitely at work for these Christians.

POSSIBLE S.A.L.T. EXPANSION INTO HONDURAS UPDATE

Our regular trips to Nicaragua were cut short by COVID-19 in 2020 but were further exasperated by the government of Nicaragua decisions which resulted in the suspension of international flights into the country.  It appears that now that the Nicaragua elections of November are now behind us, international flights may resume in January 2022.  We are trusting God will open the door for us to safely return in March 2022.  We have still been able to have our monthly conference calls with the villages of Kisalaya and Kururia and still provide funding for new wells and agriculture as they can do all the projects on their own.  We’ve been able to provide some funding for certain medical needs but, most disappointing of all, we have missed our pastors’ training times and the community spiritual conferences (revivals).

In the meantime, we have struggled to discern God’s will for us as we have been certain that God desires more from us as an organization. But God was working behind the scenes and, through a set of unique and unexpected circumstances, through means He planned in centuries past for this precise moment in time, we are heading to Honduras to possibly work with the Miskito people on the other side of the Rio Coco from Nicaragua.  We stand in awe at what He may be opening up for us to do for Him.

Approximately one-half of the Miskito people live along the south side of the Rio Coco in northeast Nicaragua in the jungles and pine savannah rain forest.  This is where we have been working for more than seven years now, in love with the people we serve and in love with a God who allows us to do what we do.

The interesting aspect is that the other half of the Miskito people live on the north side of the river in southeast Honduras. The culture is the same, the living conditions are quite similar and the needs that our organization might be able to fill are the same.  Like Nicaragua, the Miskito people in Honduras need agricultural help, clean water assistance, medical assistance and pastoral training.

God opened the door through a contact from Wilmington, NC that has been serving in an orphanage in Puerta Lempira, Honduras.  Through lots of prayer, we have agreed to explore this opportunity God has placed before us and our contact will be able to help us negotiate the new country experience. We depart in early January 2022 and will meet with numerous villages to start the building of relationships by listening to what they believe God desires of them in order to become all they can be and to make a difference in their world.  Please keep us and our team in your prayers as well as the people God has appointed for us to meet.  Thanks in advance for your prayers and support!
